Release Day Blitz: Billionaire Unknown by J.S. Scott @AuthorJSScott @freebookpromos @AuthorBookBoost #ASMSG @allauthor

Billionaire Unknown - Author J.S. Scott

Harper
I was perfectly content with my life. My career was booming. I traveled. I did as much charity work as I possibly could for the homeless, and I was perfectly happy with the choices I'd made.
At least...I was--until my sister, Dani, came up missing. As an international correspondent, she traveled to war-torn countries, and she'd stepped a little too far over the line. With my sibling kidnapped and running out of time, I had no option except to approach Marcus Colter for help.
Seeing Marcus again after having him break my heart over a decade ago wasn't easy, but to my relief, the old feelings I thought I might still harbor for him were completely gone. He was like a stranger to me. After meeting with him, my only emotion was gratitude that he was going to try to rescue my sister.
Before I could relax about feeling nothing for Marcus, I met Blake Colter, and realized every emotion I thought I'd have for Marcus was suddenly present for the gorgeous US senator.
It was ridiculous. I hadn't seen Blake since we were kids.
How could I have given myself to Marcus so many years ago, yet have these feelings for his twin brother, Blake?
The more time I spent with Blake, waiting for my sister to be rescued, the more confused I became about my attraction to him.
Then, my entire world came crashing down when I found out that everything I thought was true for over a decade wasn't the truth at all.
What happens when a woman finds out that a man she'd both loved and hated for over a decade never really existed at all?

Book Review of The Vampire's Fake Fiancée (Nocturne Falls Book 5) by Kristen Painter

Book Title: The Vampire's Fake Fiancée (Nocturne Falls #5)
Genre: Paranormal Romance
Pages: 360
Author: Kristen Painter
Date Published: 6 January 2016 (E-Book)

Synopsis:

Welcome to Nocturne Falls, the town that celebrates Halloween 365 days a year.

The tourists think it's all a show: the vampires, the werewolves, the witches, the occasional gargoyle flying through the sky. But the supernaturals populating the town know better.

Living in Nocturne Falls means being yourself. Fangs, fur, and all.

Sebastian Ellingham isn’t known for being a happy vampire. And when his long estranged wife returns expecting to pick up where they left off, things take a sharp turn toward cranky. Sure he’s been protecting her for centuries, but her assumption that he’s still available (he is) rankles.

His answer is to hire a woman to play his fiancée. The lucky victim is Tessa Blythe, sister of one of the town’s deputies, librarian in need of a job and, oh yes, reluctant Valkyrie. Playing along with Sebastian is all about the end game: earning the position of Dean of Library Studies at the local private academy.

When unexpected sparks fly between them, they agree to mutually deny the attraction. Fate, however, has other plans…

Review:

The Vampire’s Fake Fiancée (Nocturne Falls, #5)The Vampire’s Fake Fiancée by Kristen Painter
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is the fifth book in the Nocturne Falls series. I loved it!

Sebastian Ellingham is a wonderful character in my opinion and I liked him a lot. Having been introduced as Hugh's grouchy older brother in earlier books, he intrigued me. Therefore, when I realised that this book was his story I became rather excited. Sebastian has a reason to be grouchy in my opinion. He made a promise a long time ago and he has not broken it. Now Evangeline, his estranged wife, has returned, hoping to get back together. In a fit of anger, he announces he's engaged. Enter Tessa Blythe. Unfortunately, he is unprepared for the feelings she makes him feel, even as his attraction for her grows.

Tessa Blythe is also a wonderful character. I liked her a lot too. She is a Valkyrie, but has chosen a life as a librarian rather than a warrior due to an event that happened in her past and it made her afraid of her own temper. During an interview for the Dean of Library Studies at Harmswood school in Nocturne Falls, she finds herself embroiled in a deception as Sebastian's Fiancée. However, as she gets to know Sebastian better she finds herself drawn to him.

I started to read and didn't put it down until I had finished it. In fact, it felt like I'd only just started it when I finished. I flew through the story I was that absorbed. I enjoyed meeting the various residents of Nocturne Falls and getting to know them better.

The story is told through the eyes of both Sebastian and Tessa and it took me on an emotional roller coaster ride from beginning to end. The reader is also introduced to several characters including Tessa's sister, Jenna, and Jenna's work colleague, Alex Cruz, who are both deputies and work for Sheriff Hank Merrow, as well as Greaves, Sebastian's Rook and friend. Then there is Evangeline. I must admit that, although I didn't have an instant dislike for her, I found her to be rather self-centered and spoilt. Granted, she was born in a different era and grew up with different expectations. Nevertheless, her attitude towards Sebastian made me want to shake her, or at least slap her.

I have really enjoyed reading this series and watching the characters grow. In this book, there is a lot more character development for not only Sebastian, but for Tessa too. They each take an amazing journey of discovery about themselves that made me feel proud of them. There is a little more action in this storyline too, with danger in the form of Evangeline, but it was the scene between Sebastian and Duncan (Tessa's cat) in his office that tugged at my heart the most.

As I've mentioned in other reviews, I'm not a huge fan of insta-love; I like characters to have time to get to know each other better. This story is more in line with this compared to the first two books in the series. The story is a romance and I enjoyed watching Sebastian's and Tessa's relationship grow. I reached the end of the book and was left with a warm fuzzy feeling as I enjoy a happy ending. I am now looking forward to reading the next book in the series, The Shifter Romances The Writer, as soon as I can.

Kristen Painter has written a wonderful paranormal romance. I enjoyed her writing style, which is fast paced and entertaining. The flow was wonderful too. I would definitely read more of this author's books in the future.

There are no scenes of an explicit sexual nature (the scenes fade or are implied and not shown), nor is there any bad language. Therefore, I recommend this book to older teens and highly recommend this book to readers who love paranormal, supernatural or urban fantasy romances. - Lynn Worton

Book Review of Blissful Agony (Others of Edenton Book 7) by Brandy L Rivers @BrandyLRivers

Review:

Blissful Agony (Others of Edenton, #7)Blissful Agony by Brandy L. Rivers
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is the seventh book in the Others of Edenton series. I loved it!

Clint Armstrong is a wonderful character. I have always been curious about Clint's reputation and his kinky need for pain, so was intrigued when I realised that this was his story. I was glad to get to know him better. He's been attracted to Emily for a while. Knowing her past history, he is unwilling to rush or push her into a relationship. As his past rises up to haunt him and his old pack finds out he's still alive, he finds himself fighting for not only his life but for Emily's love.

Emily McCallister is also a wonderful character. I must admit that I originally didn't care for her when she was introduced in Falling Into Place, though I did feel sorry for her as she went through a terrible ordeal at the hands of her twin brother. However, she has grown throughout the series and has become a formidable healer, though still wary of any romantic entanglements. She finds herself drawn to Clint Armstrong, one of the werewolf enforcers. Will she gather enough courage to go for what she wants, or will danger pull them apart?

This series seems to be getting better and better as it goes on. The characters are extremely lifelike and likable and I could picture the scenes with ease; so much so that I felt like I was actually transported into the story.

The reader is taken on another adventure in Edenton. This story is told through various points of view, though Clint and Emily have the most say. I enjoyed watching their relationship develop. The sexual tension between them is palpable, even though Emily's past was a huge cloud hovering over her, sapping her confidence. Clint's past is also warped and full of horror. These two characters are badly damaged by their mutual pasts, but together they make each other whole. I would definitely not want to get on Emily's bad side though, as she sure packs a deadly magical punch. Clint, for all his alpha vibe, has a heart of gold even after all the horrors he was put through when he was turned. His kindness and understanding towards Emily made tears spring to my eyes.

As well as a few familiar faces making a welcome return, there are some new characters introduced into the series. Mark is one of the werewolf enforcers and is Clint's friend and business partner. Elias is a young werewolf sent by Clint's old pack to spy for them. Then there is Gina, a young woman from Clint's past, as well as Axel and Ava, the Alpha and Beta of Clint's old pack. HARP is still active in the story arc (though only in the background in this tale) and I have become intrigued as to who the leaders of this group are and what their end game is.

The story is a mix of romance, magic and danger, and takes the reader on an emotional roller coaster ride from start to finish. I must admit that I raced through the pages as I was completely gripped by the story. It made me sad when I reached the end, as I wanted to keep reading it! Though this book does not finish on a cliffhanger, it left me looking forward to continuing the series with Entangled Darkness to find out what happens next.

Brandy L. Rivers has written an entertaining paranormal romance series. I love her fast paced writing style, and the flow is wonderful. Her characters are lifelike and likable. With her ability to write in both the paranormal and contemporary romance genres, she is one of my go to authors when I'm in the mood for a sexy read.

Due to explicit scenes of a sexual nature, as well as use of profane language, I do not recommend this book to readers under the age of 18. However, I do recommend this book if you love hot erotic paranormal romances full of sexy men and determined women. - Lynn Worton

Happy New Year.

Hi, it is me, Wanda.

I have not done a blog post in forever.  Usually I rant, and those do very well for hits.  But honestly I have nothing to rant about apart from people still wishing one another a Happy New Year this late into January.  I mean, really.  Get Martha or some super housvrau to give us a rule that beyond this date you are no longer allowed to wish somebody a happy new anything until the end of the current year.

But that is not what this is about.

This is however about 2017.  Like the Black Eyed Peas say... I have a feeling...and it is a good one.
I have never in my life been more inspired to write, create - to simply do instead of simply being.

I do not think this is a feeling that jumped on my at the stroke of 12 a few weeks back.  As a matter of fact I know it is not.  But that hardly matters.
I want to fill my life with new experiences, good friends, great food and and and...
I am addicted to Coca-Cola.  Then I bought a bFit, the cheap type of Garmin or Fitbit that I can actually afford.  That led to a water drinking app that led to me almost totally kicking my Coca-Cola habit which is letting me drop some pounds and save money which...
See how that goes.

And honestly, the day I bought the bFit I was having a serious internal dialogue of wasting money.  AGAIN.

Now it is but one of the things that is adding to my life and my passions.

So Happy New Year.  I hope that if you are the resolution type - that you have stuck with it.  I hope that, if like me, you hate resolutions your own inner self is trying to break out and be the butterfly you are supposed to be.

I dont actually even care if all of these things work out in the end.  I am in this for the journey.  And man, what a ride I have planned.

Review:

Dove IslandDove Island by Miss Mae
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This is an intriguing short story. I really enjoyed it.

I would normally do a character review, but as there are only Christopher and Roxanne in it, it would cause spoilers so I will forgo this in this instance.

This story is only eleven pages long, so it took me less than five minutes to read. There is so much potential for this story. I felt that it could be expanded, as the beginning seemed more like the middle to me. I would have liked to have read about the pirate attack and not just the after affects. Nevertheless, the story did hook me from the beginning. There is very little in the way of character growth as such due to the short length. In a way, the scene the author created reminded me of the one with Jack and Rose in 'Titanic' sans the icebergs and cold water (seeing as it is set in warm, shark infested waters). However, without it being as grim considering it finishes on a relatively happy and hopeful note. Unfortunately, this book left me feeling a little disappointed that the story wasn't longer. There was also very little in the way of action, though the description of the scene from the aftermath was incredibly detailed and I could picture it in my mind's eye with ease.

I am a fan of Miss Mae's books in general. I love her writing style, which is fast paced and entertaining, and the flow was great. However, this story is not one of her best in my opinion. Having said that, I am looking forward to reading more of her books in the future.

As there are no scenes of a sexual nature, nor any profanity, younger readers would be fine while reading this short story. However, I recommend this book to readers who are looking for a quick read if you have a spare five minutes. - Lynn Worton

Book Review of Edge of Yesterday (Edge Series Book 1) by Tarah Scott & Sue-Ellen Welfonder @TarahScott

Book Title: Edge Of Yesterday (Edge Series #1)
Genre: Historical Time Travel Romance
Pages: 363
Author:  Tarah Scott & Sue-Ellen Welfonder
Date Published: 27 December 2016

Synopsis:

Two of Scottish romance’s most loved authors have joined pens to write a thrilling new time travel series filled with passion, danger, and intrigue. These never-before-published novels will sweep you to Scotland’s Highland Heatheredge, where magic is real, time is relevant, and there is no escape from desire…

Men are disappearing in the Highland crofting village of Heatheredge. The authorities suspect foul play, but without signs of violence—or bodies—they can’t prove a thing.

World champion swordsman Cailean Ross is living the fantasy of a lifetime as the victor of Heatheredge’s medieval reenactment Gathering. But when the fantasy turns into reality, swordplay becomes a fight to the death and he finds himself among the ‘missing’ statistics.

Julianna Mackay flees a man she fears is an evil wizard and literally runs into handsome Cailean Ross. Cailean defends Lady Julianna from her attackers. Together, they set out in search of the key to a six-hundred-year-old curse that can only be broken in medieval Scotland.

When the veil of time is lifted, Cailean and Julianna find that love may not be enough to save them or those they hold dear.

Review:

Edge of Yesterday (Edge Series, #1)Edge of Yesterday by Sue-Ellen Welfonder
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is the first book in a new historical time-travel romance series written by Tarah Scott and Sue-Ellen Welfonder. I am a huge fan of Tarah Scott's books, so when I found out she was co-writing this series with Sue-Ellen Welfonder, I became curious and decided to give this book a go. I am glad I did because I loved it!

Cailean Ross is a modern day professor who also happens to be a world champion swordsman. I wasn't sure if I liked him at first as he came across as conceited and a little full of himself. However, as the story progressed I began to like him more. He has the soul of a warrior. When he finds himself mysteriously sent back in time during a reenactment in the Scottish village of Heatheredge, he is torn between finding a way home and staying with the woman he has come to love.

Julianna Mackay is a wonderfully strong female character. In a time of male dominance, she fights every day for her independence. She is incredibly strong willed and determined. When she literally runs into the broad chest of Cailean Ross after fleeing for her life, she never expected to have any feelings towards him. But as danger threatens to tear them apart, she can no longer deny her attraction.

I don't read many historical time-travel romances. However, I just had to read this one. Unfortunately, due to budget constraints, I was unable to purchase a copy. Instead, thanks to Prime, I was able to borrow this book through the lending library. As soon as I had downloaded it, I began reading. I was quickly swept up in the tale, which is told through the eyes of both Cailean and Julianna and gives the reader an insight into their thoughts and feelings. I have never been to a medieval reenactment, so was intrigued by how the village of Heatheredge prepared for the event by placing false fascias over the modern looking buildings and shops.

This story took me on a huge adventure into the past, with danger following not far behind. I must admit that I liked meeting a few of the other characters too, though one or two not so much. I liked Lennox, Julianna's brother. He too is a warrior and a kind and just man. However, I took an instant dislike to Val Ross and another character called Crowe. As the story unfolded I found myself holding my breath in places and sitting on the edge of the seat in others. There are kidnappings, sword fights and a mystery surrounding how or why Cailean was transported back in time. The romance between Cailean and Julianna is touching at times. I must admit that, having read a few of Tarah Scott's more racier books, I was expecting a little more in the way of heat between the two. I'm not saying that those scenes were not devoid of heat, only a little more subdued than I had expected though no less explicit. Other readers may not have the same response. Nevertheless, I enjoyed watching their relationship grow. Cailean's character also grows throughout the story and I enjoyed watching him settle into the 14th Century as if putting on a glove. He truly is an old soul. The description of both the present and the past were vividly written and I felt like I was actually there, standing next to Cailean or Julianna and seeing exactly what they saw. In fact, I became so emersed that I forgot I was even in modern day England and not 1395. It was a little jarring to the senses when I finished the story, let me tell you!

The story does end on a small cliffhanger, but this only left me itching to get my hands on the second book, which is told through the eyes of Lennox and Ginny (Cailean's sister) to see what happens next.

Tarah Scott and Sue-Ellen Welfonder have written a fantastic historical time travel romance. I love their writing style which is fast paced and entertaining, and the flow is wonderful too. Since Tarah Scott is already one of my favourite authors, I will have to add Sue-Ellen Welfonder onto my list too. I am looking forward to reading more of both authors' books in the future.

Due to scenes of a sexual nature that are rather on the explicit side and some bad language, I do not recommend this book to readers under the age of 16. I do, however, highly recommend this book if you love historical, time travel or contemporary romances. - Lynn Worton

Review:

Chase: The Hunt for the Mute PoetessChase: The Hunt for the Mute Poetess by Thomas Dellenbusch
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This is a crime thriller that has been translated from German into English. I really enjoyed it!

Enrique "Rique" Allmers is a wonderful character. I liked him a lot. He runs a security firm called CHASE, which investigates mostly business related espionage and crimes. When a deaf mute young woman literary runs into his arms, his protective instincts kick in. As he investigates, danger is never very far behind. Can he keep Katja from the clutches of an extremely evil man?

I must admit that I may not have read this book if the author had not contacted me. I have so many books on my reading list that I originally turned him down. However, after thinking about it, I changed my mind and purchased a copy to read in my own time. I'm glad I did because once I started to read it, I didn't put it down until I'd finished it.

Set in Germany, this book takes the reader on a thrilling adventure of danger, suspense, mystery and romance. Mostly told through Rique's point of view (although some scenes are through Katja's eyes), it is a pulse pounding ride, with chases, gun fights and several twists that keep a reader hooked. There are several interesting characters in this story. Katja is a deaf mute, so there is very little in the way of dialogue from her, but the author has written her in a realistic and expressive manner that makes you forget that she can't hear or speak. She can, however, lip read and use sign language, and is an author of poetry. Then there are Rique's work colleagues. They seem like a rag tag bunch at first, but they all have their own specialty and are highly professional. I love Dr. Liang. Although he's an octogenarian, he is well versed in martial arts and owns a gym where Rique and the rest of the team train. Chen Lu is his granddaughter and part of Rique's team, which also consists of: Jerome, Ben, Maik, Nikolai, Hannes and Andree. I must admit that I would have loved to know more about CHASE, as they seem to skirt pretty closely to the edge of the law at times to get things done. Speaking of skirting the edge of the law, I took an instant dislike to Lorenzo Marone, who is not a very nice man. He runs a prostitution ring and is more a mafia don than businessman. As to why he was after Katja, you'll just have to read the book to find out.

I reached the end of the book with mixed feelings, sad that it had ended but happy at the way it concluded. I am not sure if I would call this a movie-length story though, as it felt too short. However, maybe I'm just being difficult by wanting to read more.

Thomas Dellenbusch has written an intriguing crime thriller. I love his fast paced writing style. However, whether it was because it had been translated from German to English, I found some of the story didn't flow smoothly in places (other readers may not be of the same opinion). Nevertheless, this didn't detract from my enjoyment of it. I would definitely consider reading more books by this author in the future.

Although there are no explicit scenes of a sexual nature, I do not recommend this book for younger readers due to some violence. However, I highly recommend this book if you love crime thrillers/mystery/suspense genres. - Lynn Worton

Review:

Light In Darkness (Others of Edenton, #6)Light In Darkness by Brandy L. Rivers
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is the sixth book in the Others of Edenton series. I loved it!

Lincoln is a wonderful character. I liked him a lot. He has been in the periphery of the storyline for the most part as a secondary character since the first book, so I was glad this story gave me a chance to get to know him better. He has been attracted to Victoria for a while, but due to his sheltered upbringing, he has an innocence about him and he is rather shy. However, since the death of his mother, he has come out of his shell a lot more and gained confidence. He knows it'll be hard to win Victoria's heart, but as danger threatens and brings them closer together, can he show her that she's not the monster she thinks she is?

Victoria is also a wonderful character. I liked her a lot too. She is a vampire - a shadowstalker to be precise - who has fought hard to not feed on Other blood for several years. She is also attracted to Lincoln, but is determined not to give in to the temptation he represents. When she finds herself the target of an organisation that hunts Others, she must decide whether to embrace her inner darkness or entrust her heart to Lincoln.

This is a hard review to write because I don't want to give any spoilers. I will say that I thought this book has been the best of the series so far. I love the way Lincoln and Victoria's relationship unfolded. Lincoln is so determined that Victoria be his, he keeps chipping away at the wall she's placed around herself that she's got only one choice, and that's to surrender.

There are several twists and turns in this story, along with a few surprises, which kept me hooked. As secrets are revealed, Lincoln comes into his own. I enjoyed watching him gain even more confidence and see how his character grew. Victoria grew as a character too. There is a definite story arc developing as an organisation called HARP is introduced. This organisation seems to be playing with both human and Other fears and pitting them against each other. What their end game is, I'm not sure. One thing I am sure of is that this book has a lot of action. I enjoyed meeting the residents of Edenton again, even though they always seem to be under siege from someone's enemy. However, there are several new characters introduced, though some were introduced in prior books but only had minor roles. Declan, Fallon and Devlin's father, is now sharing a house with Victoria as she is his sponsor since being turned into a vampire. We also get to meet Hadraniel and Jophiel, who are both angels. Byron is a young man bent on revenge, Monty is his brother (and a vampire) and they are both in HARP. Then there is Mena and Jones, who are the leaders of HARP. They are not exactly human and feed off of pain and fear of their victims.

The story is a mix of romance, magic and danger, and takes the reader on an emotional roller coaster ride from start to finish. It felt like I'd only just started reading and then it finished! But, having said that, I raced through the pages as I was completely gripped by the story. Though this book does not finish on a cliffhanger, it left me looking forward to continuing the series with Blissful Agony to find out what happens next.

Due to explicit scenes of a sexual nature, as well as use of bad language, I do not recommend this book to readers under the age of 18. However, I do recommend this book if you love hot erotic paranormal romances full of sexy men and determined women. - Lynn Worton
